Council Opposes Library Hours Cutback

14th Dec 2018

Proposals to cut the number of library opening hours at the Tenterden Gateway are being opposed by the Town Council. The Gateway is one of only three such shared service centres in Kent.

Kent County Council is proposing to cut the number of opening hours at Tenterden Library - from 49.5 to 28 hours a week.

The council's external committee last night (Monday, 10 December) agreed to oppose the proposed hours reduction at the Library, because of its regular use by a diverse age range of local people, particularly using its computers; and the potential loss of the children's reading club in the library. The arrangements for access to the Post Office are unclear.

Town Clerk Phil Burgess was asked to write to KCC outlining these concerns, and request maintenance of the existing opening hours.
