New Forums to Help Tenterden's Economic Recovery

16th Jul 2020

To help Tenterden’s economy recover post-pandemic, on Monday, 13 July the Town Council last night agreed to re-shape its committees focused on tourism, business and regenerating the High Street.

There will now be one large forum of businesses, tourism attractions, Chamber of Commerce and residents to generate new ideas for the “new reality”.

Suggestions from the forum would then be considered and refined by smaller Tourism and High Street Regeneration sub-committees, which would make recommendations to the Town Council.

Members will include the newly-appointed Tenterden Town Centre & Tourism Co-ordinator, councillors from Tenterden and Ashford Borough Council, and tourism specialists. There would be an open invitation for anyone from the town to make a contribution, and no limitation on the size of the forum.

Following last night’s meeting, Town Clerk Phil Burgess said: “As the economy starts to recover, we felt it essential that we had a fleet-footed structure in place to ensure that good ideas came quickly to the fore, and that everyone has a chance to help improve the town’s economic future.”
