Tenterden Recreation Ground Focus Group Up and Running

23rd Sep 2017

The last of the four Focus Groups, working on projects to be funded from more than £3.5 million received from the developers of new housing estates in Tenterden, is to meet for the first time.

The Recreation Ground Focus Group includes Cllrs Alan Sugden and Ken Mulholland, local residents, representatives from the town's football, tennis, netball, bowls and other sports clubs, and is scheduled to meet for the first time on Wednesday, 11 October.

The group's remit is to evaluate the opportunity to develop and make more of the Recreation Ground and its facilities, including the Pavilion, football pitch, tennis courts and East Cross Gardens, and they will be advised by professional architects 'Ground Control'.

The first item on the Recreation Ground Focus Group's agenda will be the provision of a new skate park, which was identified in the public consultation period earlier this year and which the Town Council is committed to providing.

Three other Focus Groups have been appointed, and are considering the feasibility of a cinema; the restoration of the Town Hall; and improved use of local community halls.

Says the Mayor of Tenterden, Cllr Justin Nelson: "The members of our Focus Groups are drawn from right across the community, and they have the exciting job of coming up with fully costed and thoroughly investigated ideas to help regenerate the town for the future".
