Developers Withdraw Controversial Traffic Lights Plan

5th Sep 2018

Redrow, the developers of 100 new homes at Tilden Gill, Tenterden, have withdrawn their controversial proposals to install traffic lights at the busy junction of Beacon Oak Road and the A28 Ashford Road.

Their decision, communicated to Ashford Borough Council's planning department, follows vigorous opposition from Tenterden Town Council and local residents.

Last month, the council's planning committee backed the original proposal for a roundabout at the junction. This was supported by an independent report from traffic management consultants and personal representations from residents.

Chair of Planning, Cllr. John Crawford, commented: "This is good news, although Redrow have said they will not go ahead with their plans for traffic lights, but will look at 'alternative options'.

"As far as the council is concerned, a roundabout is the sensible solution, which will help manage the increasing flow of traffic into the town."
