While the government’s Road Map out of the Covid pandemic prevents the Annual Town Meeting being held on its scheduled date of Tuesday, 1 June, the Town Council has approved the staging of an entirely new new Ambitions & Achievements Event to explain the council’s aims and ambitions for the coming year.
Residents will be invited to attend the event on Monday, 26 July. The meeting will be followed up later in the month with guided tours of the Town Hall, and in August with a public consultation on the financing of improvements to the building.
Says Town Clerk Phil Burgess: “We feel that instead of simply cancelling the Annual Town Meeting, because residents wouldn’t be able to attend in person, we should hold a later meeting when everyone can attend and contribute to the council’s vision for the future.
“It’s the first time that we have done this, and allows us the opportunity to reflect on the achievements of the past year and explain our aspirations for the future, at the same time giving us an opportunity to expand on our plans for improvements to the Town Hall, making it fully fit for 21st century purpose.”
