Debbie Greaves to receive an MBE

The Mayor, Cllr John Crawford on behalf of Tenterden Town Council would like to congratulate Debbie Greaves on being awarded the MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) in this years King Charles 2023 Honours List. The honour is richly deserved.

The award recognises Debbie’s amazing community work as Curator at the Tenterden & District Museum for over the past twenty years. She was responsible for making Tenterden Museum one of the most popular and dynamic attractions for visitors to the town.

The museum originally opened in 1976 and was run entirely by volunteers. In 1999, Debbie was appointed Curator who set about revitalising the museum.  By 2004, the museum had reached such a high standard that it was awarded accreditation by the Arts Council, giving it access to grants and expertise.

The museum maintains an exemplary standard of conservation and preservation of its unique collection. It provides a repository for artefacts connected to Tenterden.

Debbie’s community service contributions had not gone unnoticed by Tenterden Town Council. On the 6th August 2021, the Council awarded Debbie Greaves with the Freedom of the Town and Hundred of Tenterden. Debbie is the first woman for 30 years to receive this award.
