Tenterden Town Council is looking ahead to the future of the adopted Tenterden Neighbourhood Plan with the formation of a new Neighbourhood Plan Advisory Group (NPAG) — a key step in ensuring the Plan continues to reflect the aspirations and priorities of the local community.
At its meeting on 8th September 2025, the Council will formally dissolve the Neighbourhood Plan Steering Committee (NPSC), paving the way for the launch of the NPAG. This transition follows the successful adoption of the Neighbourhood Plan by Ashford Borough Council in September 2024 and reflects the Council’s commitment to maintaining momentum and delivering on the Plan’s long-term vision. The Town Council, through the NPAG and its existing working groups, is strengthening its capacity to engage proactively with both the forthcoming Ashford Local Plan 2041 and local government reorganisation.
The NPAG will support the Council’s work on planning matters, feeding directly into the Town Council’s Planning Committee. Its membership will include both Town Councillors and community representatives, ensuring a balanced and inclusive approach. This structure will enable continued community involvement and draw on the valuable experience of residents who helped shape the original Plan.
Recruitment for the NPAG will begin following the September meeting. Existing steering committee members, alongside residents who are passionate about local planning and interested in contributing to the future of Tenterden are encouraged to get in touch via townhall@tenterdentowncouncil.gov.uk.
This marks an exciting new chapter for neighbourhood planning in Tenterden. The Council looks forward to working collaboratively with residents to ensure the Neighbourhood Plan remains a dynamic and responsive tool for shaping the town’s future.
