Police Reveal Tenterden Crime Camera Plans

Tenterden Town Council has given strong support to a Kent Police proposal to install Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras in the Tenterden Area.

In a letter to the council, Kent Police explained that ANPR cameras are used to “detect, deter and disrupt criminality at a local, force, regional and national level, from volume crime offending, organised crime which often involves travelling criminals, and more serious public safety threats such as terrorism offences,” as well as supporting road safety.

If the scheme goes ahead, the cameras would be installed at fixed locations – kept confidential to avoid benefitting offenders – and in police vehicles.
